Hertsmere is located in southern Hertfordshire – we are 13 miles from Central London and within the M25.  We adjoin Greater London with excellent road and rail links making London and the Home Counties easily accessible. The Council Offices are situated in Borehamwood within Zone 6 and with a direct rail link into London Kings Cross St. Pancras.  The area is an internationally renowned centre for film and television production, home to BBC Elstree and Elstree Studios (a council owned asset).

Are you an experienced governance professional, who is self-motivated with excellent communication skills, well organised and has a sound knowledge of local government law and practice?

We are seeking a team player with positive inter-personal skills to join our friendly team in supporting Hertsmere’s decision-making and governance arrangements. You will be focusing primarily on supporting the Overview and Scrutiny function, but will be equally comfortable working with Members and senior officers on non-scrutiny bodies and providing them with procedural advice.

An understanding of Data Protection and Freedom of Information would be preferable, as we also co-ordinate complaints submitted under the Council’s formal complaints procedure and from the Local Government Ombudsman and FOI requests.

With a solid background in the decision-making and governance processes of local authorities, or a similar role, you must be able to work to tight deadlines and have a high level of computer literacy.

The post is offered on a full-time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).

Benefits include 26 – 30 days annual leave (depending on the length of Local Government Service), local government pension scheme, flexible working hours, free car parking, free use of leisure facilities, cycle scheme, childcare voucher scheme, season ticket loans and access to a large staff roof garden.
