The Revenues and Benefits team is part of Portsmouth City Councils Finance and Resources directorate and offers customer and financial service to Portsmouth based businesses and residents. The Local Taxation team, within Revenues and Benefits, manages the billing and collection of Council Tax. The successful post holder will be working within the Local Taxation Team.

 

Your New Role 

You will be reporting to the Revenues Technical Support Manager and be responsible for determining who is liable for council tax or Non-Domestic rates. Within your role you will administer council tax and business rates accounts whilst also making sure databases are accurately updated to reflect the collection and administration of council tax and Non-Domestic Rates.  You will be dealing with customers over telephone, via correspondence and face to face with their specific queries and ensuring decisions are made based on legislation and local policy

 

What you’ll need to succeed

You will need to

  • Ideally have a good working knowledge of council tax and business rates
  • Have excellent customer service and communication skills and have the ability to converse and provide advice at ease to customers in accurate spoken English. 
  • Have a good working knowledge of MS office would be desirable and an understanding of how to obtain information and knowledge when updating records and accounts in a back office system
  • Proven experience of working within a busy office environment and have the flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of Revenues and Benefits and the Finance and Resource directorate.
