The Neighbourhood Youth Worker will be located at West Kirby Youth Club in the West Wirral A Neighbourhood Youth area.

They will assist the Team Leader to manage a Youth Service unit/project and working alongside the Team Leader to liaise with and support voluntary organisations as part of the area's development, with a complement of Level 1 Youth Support Workers (Assisting).  The Neighbourhood Youth Worker will be accountable to and be line managed by a Team Leader.  A percentage of the postholder's time will be in direct contact with young people as agreed by the Head of Service as appropriate to the role.

The post holder will take an active role including receiving, prioritising, and completing work allocated through the Team Leader and wider services processes.

In this role, Neighbourhood Youth Workers will deliver a high standard youth work and meet the needs of the young people they are working with. They will also build and develop partnership work in the neighbourhood area, establishing networks with other organisations, schools, partners and individuals to further the work on behalf of young people. They will also ensure that young people are actively involved in the design, delivery and governance of the project and local community processes.

You will deliver at least 3 evenings of open access youth work.

Candidate must have knowledge and understanding of essential criteria below:

  •  NVQ 3 Qualification in youth work or equivalent.

  •  Regular face to face youth work with young people aged 11 to 19 years.

  •  Previous experience of a youth project.

  •  Assist in the development and maintenance of effective relationships and communications with other agencies and service providers to share information, build working relationships and to ensure joined up service provision.

  • Have a clear understanding of equal opportunity and its importance in relation to youth work practice.

  • Clear understanding and knowledge of safeguarding.

  • Understanding of national and local initiatives affecting young people, youth work methodology and the current youth work policy agenda.

  •  Good communication skills with communities, councillors, and other partner agencies

  •  Ability to build productive working relationships with multi-disciplinary groups.

  •  IT and report writing skills.

  •  Ability to motivate and mentor staff and/or volunteers.

You'll need to be qualified in NVQ 3 Qualification in youth work or equivalent and have experience working in a youth club setting.
