3 permanent roles available: 1 x Adoption Panel Chair, 1 x Fostering Panel Chair, and 1 x Fostering and Adoption Panel Chair.

Panel chair remuneration: £650 per day pro rata.

The Adoption Service runs 3 full day panels per calendar month, the fostering service runs 5 full day panels per calendar month.

As Panel Chair, you will be required to take responsibility for chairing panel meetings, ensuring that all items of business are covered and that the panel operates in accordance with Adoption and Fostering Regulations and BCT’s policies and procedures.

Keeping the experience of the Child at the centre of your discussions you will lead the independent scrutiny of Adoption and Fostering Assessments and Reviews to make recommendations to the Agency Decision Maker (ADM) in respect of carer’s suitability to adopt or foster. The Adoption chair is also responsible for independently scrutinising adoption matches, thereafter, making suitable recommendations to the ADM.

You will have management and leadership experience of the Adoption and/or Fostering Sector and be a qualified social worker. Ideally you will also have experience as a panel chair or vice chair. We are specifically looking to recruit an individual to this key role who has experience and skills in chairing and participating in complex meetings where a wide variety of views maybe expressed.

As an able communicator you will support the development of the Adoption Service (which is a VAA and RAA) and Fostering Service (which is an IFA) through strong links to the Panel Advisors, Panel Manager, Adoption and Fostering Management Teams and the Agency Decision Makers. Good listening and communication skills are essential along with the ability to make an assessment based on the written and verbal information presented to the panel.

The expectation is that you will provide leadership to the panel by being well prepared, reading panel papers carefully identifying key issues and alerting the Panel Advisors if necessary, to any concerns. The successful applicants also need to be able to provide focus, manage time and create a safe space to consider complex issues and record clear decision making in the presence of panel members.

You will be committed to continuous professional development and learning and be able to promote best practice and assist in the recruitment appointment and appraisal of panel members as required.

If you would like to discuss this role informally, please contact Andy Logie at andrew.logie@birminghamchildrenstrust.co.uk
