Come join the Team! An opportunity has arisen to join the multi-skilled Sustainability and Climate Change Team in Barnsley Council as a Project Support Officer.
Barnsley Council declared a climate emergency in September 2019 and set out its aims to achieve net-zero carbon within the council by 2040, and across the borough by 2045. Our Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) 2020-2025, sets out how we will deliver on these commitments; setting ambitious targets to reduce emissions within our borough by 65% (against a 2017 baseline) by 2025.
We have an exciting programme of work to facilitate carbon reductions both throughout the council and the wider borough and are developing innovative solutions to embed sustainability across all areas of our activity. As a result, we require one dedicated Project Support Officer to help us eliminate fuel poverty, health inequalities and stimulate economic growth through innovative investment opportunities to tackle climate change.
Quality dedicated project support is vital to the service area. The postholder will be expected to provide a variety of tasks and produce quality project management support to the team. Other duties will include data inputting, problem solving, responding to telephone enquiries, sign posting and supporting a range of internal and external customers. Accurate and concise minute taking is vital as is, attention to detail to ensure the accurate processing of financial purchasing and invoicing transactions for a range of goods and services.
As a minimum, you will need to hold a level 2 qualification and have experience of working within a project management setting. You’ll be able to demonstrate your skills and ability, using real examples – applicants that are invited to interview will be asked to carry out an administrative exercise where you’ll be able to showcase your skills.
You will be diligent and pragmatic in your approach to work. We need a strong team player who is willing to work flexibly and make a solid contribution to the smooth running of the service.
In return for your hard work, you will be provided with training and opportunities to progress your continuous professional development in line with the requirements of the role, together with support from the Group Leader, Strategy Manager, Energy and Water Data Officer and colleagues in an enthusiastic and dedicated team.
