Democratic Services supports many of the Councils’ activities and we are committed to ensuring an efficient, highly effective service with a strong customer focus. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced person to join our team in a role that offers an excellent opportunity for managerial development and career progression in local government.

As Senior Committee Officer you will be innovative, positive and help to drive improvement. Providing professional advice on the decision-making process to members and officers, you will be responsible for ensuring high standards of corporate governance. You will lead the Committee Services team which is responsible for administrative support to decision making, regulatory committees and overview and scrutiny. Responsibilities also include managing activities related to elected members, including member development and induction.

The successful candidate should ideally have experience in team leadership, or demonstrate the ability and character to lead a team, a thorough knowledge of how local government works and will have worked in democratic services or a similar corporate governance role. Also required are strong all-round communication and interpersonal skills, political awareness, tact and diplomacy, attention to detail, and an ability to think logically and plan ahead. Reliability and calmness under pressure are pre-requisites, given that the role often involves working to tight deadlines.

The successful candidate will be required to work over our Lewes and Eastbourne Offices and some evening work will be required, this will be discussed further at interview.
