About the role
We are recruiting an Officer to join the Special Educational Needs and Disability Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS).
You will be part of a small but busy team providing free, confidential and impartial advice to children and young people up to the age of 25 and their parents. You will give advice relating to all aspects of SEN and Disabilities, including Health and Social Care. Training will be provided.
You will be working mainly with parents, but occasionally with children and young people with special educational needs. You will support them to make informed decisions and resolve disagreements about their/their child’s special educational needs.
SENDIASS offer support from initial concerns that a child may have SEND through to requesting and maintaining an Education, Health and Care Plan. Support is provided via telephone and email, attending meetings (often virtually) and through training delivered to parents.
SENDIASS are committed to empowering individuals to participate confidently in important decisions about their education and care needs, ensuring that their views are heard alongside those of professionals.
We are looking to recruit a motivated, empathetic person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
You will have the ability to work as part of a team as well as being able to work independently. You will have excellent organisational skills and an ability to prioritise you work. You will have the ability to remain calm and to respond sensitively to difficult situations. Ideally you will have relevant experience in education or through giving support or advice to families or individuals. Knowledge of current SEND law is desirable, although not essential as training will be given.
We can give some degree of flexibility over working hours for the right candidate.
