The South Team Planning Manager will lead on managing development in the South of the Borough; supporting the delivery of planned growth identified in the draft Local Plan particularly in Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow, Wood Street and Lea Bridge, ensuring develop delivers benefits to local communities and protects the characteristics of the borough that make it an attractive place to live and work.
The Role – South Team Manager
We are looking for someone who has the drive and energy to help deliver this ambitious agenda, leading the South Area Team, by supporting the renewed emphasis on high quality architectural design, residential accommodation and public realm.
You will be a leader who can inspire a team and has the skills and behaviours that can manage a high volume of planning casework, ensuring sound planning decisions are made. You will be confident in tackling new challenges and flexible in your approach to you work to allow you to adapt and meet the needs of the service.
You will be a knowledgeable and experienced Planner with a critical understanding of planning legislation and national and regional policy and extensive experience of dealing with a range of planning applications and managing staff.
You will be able to demonstrate experience of good working relationships both within the Council and with a range of external stakeholders. The role will involve dealing with high profile and potentially controversial proposals, you will therefore need to be resilient and respond sensitively to the needs of the community and politicians.
You will support the Assistant Director in delivering continuous service improvement, reviewing and acting on performance data, ensuring the service is customer focussed and embracing technology and new working methods to drive performance improvements.
