Directorate: Resident Services

Job Title: Engineer – Highway Development Control

Pay: PO2 (£34,884 - £36,708)

Waltham Forest Highways are delivering ongoing substantial change with  schemes to promote walking and cycling, following the Mini Holland programme. This includes placing cycling at the heart of new developments. The highway development control team is responsible for checking all new development proposals and planning applications to ensure compliance with standards applicable to the highway network and wider public realm.

We invite an enthusiastic, highly motivated and exceptional individual to join our ambitious Highway Development Team dealing with highway planning and development issues. The highway development team is central to protecting and maintaining highway interests, assessing proposals and identifying the highway alterations, liaising with developers throughout the planning, development and construction process. This includes major applications supporting the growth of the Borough.

The role will require dealing with planning cases, liaising on legal (S278 and S38) agreements, dealing with CLOCS Construction Logistics Plans to mitigate effects on highway network due to proposed developments.

The successful candidate will have good knowledge and experience of highway development or highway engineering. Ideally you will already have experience or knowledge of CLOCS Construction Logistics Plans. Alternately, suitably qualified candidates with ether a construction background and an understanding of logistics and site safety, or from a network management background would be considered. Additional training will be proved where needed.

In addition you will also be dealing with enquiries from councillors, members of the public and developers.

We are an award winning department with an approved Institution of Civil Engineers training programme and will give opportunities for the successful candidate to gain professional accreditation.
