Larchwood is a Short Break Children's Home which, as part of Children's Social Care, provides a range of services for children and young people with disabilities and their families living in Bracknell Forest. Registered with Ofsted as a five bedded unit, Larchwood provides planned short breaks. Rated as Outstanding by Ofsted, our staff team "are child focused and ensure that every child has a positive and enjoyable stay when they visit the home."

The Larchwood service aims to enable children and young people with disabilities to develop and manage their own support packages. Working directly with our service users this means flexibility, creativity, and individual empowerment for our staff team.

The aim of short breaks is to provide a fun, dynamic and meaningful experience for the individuals we support, whilst giving families the opportunity to spend time with siblings, significant others or just the chance to recharge.

What it's like working in our team...

This post involves working on a shift rota basis. The successful candidate will join an experienced, imaginative, and motivated team covering shifts that include early and late shifts, some split shifts, some sleep-ins, and some weekends.

We currently provide:

  • Overnight visits
  • After school care
  • Teenage club
  • Weekend day care
  • 'On the Move' outreach

The work is rewarding, interesting, and varied and includes:

  • Key working and goal planning
  • Travel Training
  • Sleep Clinic Programmes
  • Transition Support
  • Developing the aspirations and independence of our children and young people

You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training...

  • Participate in the delivery of all short break care and support for children and young people, this includes:
    • Ensuring children and young people's communication methods are supported and encouraged.
    • All individual personal care needs are met.
    • Children and young people's social and emotional development is encouraged, and opportunities are provided to enable them to develop new or practice existing skills.
    • Children and young people are supported to express their emotions, wants, and needs in a safe meaningful way.
  • Develop and maintain individual care plans and risk profiles.
  • Promote the welfare of children and young people and contribute to ensuring that children are safeguarded from abuse.
  • Promote active listening to children at every opportunity; ensuring their views are heard and incorporated into the planning of the service.
  • Work with families in relation to the needs and wishes of individuals, to support participation, coproduction, and service delivery.
  • Work closely with social care and education and other agencies to ensure a joined up approached to supporting the child/young person attending Larchwood.
  • Work within legislative and regulatory frameworks to ensure the highest quality of care is given.
  • Gain the relevant qualifications and ensure training and skills are kept up to date and appropriate for the role.

What we're looking for...

We are looking for passionate, flexible, and dedicated staff to work within our service, increasing the range of support to children and young people, and making a difference in their lives.

You will:

  • Have the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People Services (or be willing to work towards this).
  • Have relevant experience of working with children or young adults, ideally with disabilities.
  • Be sensitive to the needs of children and their families and have effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Work in partnership with parents, carers, and other professionals.
