In each area, the partnership has identified growth priorities and established Growth Deals identifying how the County will work with Districts and Boroughs to deliver these priorities. The Growth Deals include a range of projects and initiatives that will and have transformed places in West Sussex, including:

  • Major town centre redevelopment and regeneration proposals
  • Working with developers and funders to facilitate strategic housing development sites
  • Site acquisition to secure essential commercial space
  • Securing key infrastructure (transport, health, digital, education etc.) to support the delivery of strategic development
  • Maximising growth outcomes from land in public ownership, and supporting the aspirations of the governments one public estates programme.

About The Job

Salary: £37,568 - £40,578 per annum
Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week, flexible working available
Contract Length: Fixed term or Secondment, 7 months
Location: Chichester or Crawley and working from home

As the Project Manager, you will manage, or provide subject matter expertise, on single projects or assignments, or a small portfolio of projects, as guided by the Growth Programme Delivery manager, and you will have responsibility for line or matrix management, or both, of a small team.

Your initial focus will be supporting the refreshing of the Crawley Growth Programme and supporting other key tasks in the area. This will entail:

  • Providing stakeholder management of partner organisations.
  • Building relationships with key partners.
  • Documentation of decisions and engagement.
  • Providing project documentation such as highlight reports, financial updates and risks, issues and benefits.
  • Provide briefings to senior officers and members
  • Connecting with other relevant workstreams to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.

Experience and Skills

Key Skills:

  1. Ability to research, analyse and interpret information to make effective judgements in order to review the effectiveness of activities and service provision, plan long term and set timescales.
  2. Ability to make sound pragmatic problem-solving decisions, based on analysis. Supporting economic outputs and utilising resources effectively.
  3. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence the actions of others and communicate information which may be complex and contentious. Including the ability to negotiate solutions across wide areas of the business and successfully convince others of the need to take a specific course of action.
  4. Ability to challenge existing practices and identify innovative solutions within the required framework.
  5. Ability to apply project management principles and practices. Ability to set timescales and review effectiveness of service delivery.
  6. Ability to work with project teams to influence and achieve desired results.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Professional qualification relevant either to management or to the professional service specialism; or equivalent level of significant experience demonstrating comprehensive application of the above levels of knowledge in a relevant setting.
  • Relevant chartered status of a professional body or equivalent high-level experience of involved practices.
  • Strong experience and understanding of complex project management such as NEC 4 and civil engineering contracts, CDM regulations, and risk.
  • Experience of working with and building partnerships with a range of internal and external organisations and subject matter experts to deliver key economic growth outputs.
  • A 'Managing Successful Programmes' / PRINCE 2 accreditation.
  • PC literate and knowledge of MS suite i.e. Word, Excel, Project, etc.
