Head of Democratic Services
We have an exciting opportunity in our Democratic Services Team. We are seeking a new Head of Democratic Services due to the retirement of existing staff.
You will need to be team player with strong organisational and communication skills (both verbal and written), the ability to manage a varied workload to deadlines and well-developed ICT skills. For the post, ideally you would have at least five years of local government committee or democratic services related work and possess sound judgement, attention to detail and political sensitivity.
The Council operates a committee-based system model which means that the post holder will have extensive exposure to and interaction with Councillors. The Council has also recently introduced a new software system called Modern.Gov for the creation of papers for meetings.
Your role will involve co-ordinating and servicing meetings of Committee and Member Working Parties. Tasks will include preparation of agendas, advising on procedural issues to ensure statutory requirements are met, attendance at evening meetings, as needed, and writing minutes. You will also assist with scrutiny reviews. Due to the roles having regular contact with, and supporting Councillors, and liaising with senior officers, good interpersonal skills are important.
An attendance allowance is payable for attendance at evening meetings (or TOIL can be given if preferred). The post has been designated as a politically restricted posts under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
Runnymede is currently in a trial of an agile working system which allows staff to work from home two days a week.
