About the role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Standards and Learning Effectiveness Service, working with the Safeguarding Team and Mental Health Support Teams based at East Sussex County Council, working to achieve a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship. You will be provided with the support and training to develop your skills and help you work towards this qualification.
The Safeguarding Team provides support to all schools across East Sussex through the delivery of training courses, undertaking safeguarding practice reviews (SPR) and other support visits, dealing with safeguarding concerns and supporting schools to develop their Whole School Approach to safeguarding practice.
The Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are responsible for supporting children and young people with their mental health and wellbeing by providing short-term low-intensity interventions and for supporting schools with their Whole School Approaches (WSA) to Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing (MHEW). Based within the Children’s Services Department and working across East Sussex.
We are looking for someone who is competent with technology and confident with people to benefit from an all-round grounding in being a Business Administrative professional, including learning all that is needed to become confident and competent in co-ordinating referral processes, communicating with service users and schools, processing school bookings for safeguarding reviews and training, responding to school queries and supporting a busy team.
East Sussex County Council offer a hybrid working approach dependent on service requirements.
Apprentices will gain the skills and knowledge to be able to support the Safeguarding Team and MHSTs function in its delivery of improved performance in the workplace at an individual, team and organisation level. The role holder will become proficient in:
- Managing professional development and prioritisation of workload to include training time required to achieve relevant apprenticeship qualification.
- Liaising with staff, clients and other agencies to assist in the delivery of services.
- Co-ordinating referral process and efficiently responding to service users and stakeholders.
The apprenticeship at level 3 will be run by an accredited partner, who are responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core skills, knowledge and behaviours to complete and your work experience and assigned tasks will be linked to the skills, knowledge and behaviours you will learn about in your course.
The course delivery format is to be confirmed but is likely to use a blend of face to face workshops and online learning. You will also have time for self-paced study. In the workplace you will receive additional support from a nominated professional mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship, as well as a pastoral mentor who will help you settle in and get used to what is expected from you.
Apprentices without certificated evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made. Please note that immediately following a provisional offer of employment the provider may carry out their own short interview to confirm suitability.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
