We have an exciting opportunity for a new Clinical Team Lead in the North West of Surrey. The post holder will hold a specialist caseload in an area of their expertise as well as hold a Team Lead role in the North West.

The starting salary for this position is £29,815 (NHS Band 7 equivalent) for 28.80 hours per week (4 days), across 42 weeks of the year. The role is term time, plus an additional 15 days per year. Full-time equivalent £40,227 per annum.

In this role, you will:

  • Hold your own specialist clinical caseload in the area of your clinical expertise
  • Provide second opinions, observation and support, training, and shadowing opportunities to colleagues
  • Work with colleagues around service development and to ensure the wider team is informed of current research and evidence base, and that clinical practice is of high quality and reflects the research and evidence base
  • Provide advice at educational panels
  • Support the North West SLT Team through management, supervision and through wider team development

About Us

The School-Aged SLT Service is part of Surrey’s local offer to support the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities of children and young people within mainstream schools and specialist provision. The Service is part of the Vulnerable Learners Team in Surrey’s Children, Families and Learning Directorate.

Our main aim is for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs to receive the right support at the right time. This is achieved through assessment and intervention, equipping families and professionals with the skills and resources to work together to help and support children with SLCN. We work with children and young people with EHCPs and those at SEN support.

  • We are a large team (over 150) of both therapists and therapy assistants
  • We have excellent supervision and CPD models
  • Last year we presented at the South Central Hub Event for our innovative work
  • We work closely with the SCALES project lead, Courtney Norbury to learn from the research to inform practice.
  • We work across four geographical quadrants, each managed by a Quadrant Lead. Each team is made up of a skill mix of therapists and assistants. There are a team of Highly Specialist/Clinical Team Leads in each area to support the team and support service development

To apply your application will clearly evidence:

  • SLT background with at least 5 years PG experience, and specific experience working in a school environment including an area of specialism with associated evidenced based practice
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and Code of Practice and experience in working within the Balanced system Framework
  • Experience of working in an effective multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of successfully managing difficult conversations
  • Flexibility to adapt clinical approach and communication style to ensure that assessment, reports, therapy inputs and outcomes are functional and client centred
  • Experience of training and positively influencing practice in large staff teams
  • Experience of line managing and supporting others
  • A BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent in SLT
  • Registered membership of the HCPC
  • Registered membership of the RCSLT
