We are excited to be recruiting a skilled and creative Support Officer to join the Principal Occupational Therapist (POT) and Principal Social Worker (PSW).

The Principals in North Somerset Council are jointly responsible for ensuring the following:

  • Effective Quality Assurance across Social Work and Occupational Therapy
  • Robust Learning and Development for the social care workforce
  • Clear Strategy and Policy Development
  • Engagement with staff, partners and people who use our services

These team areas play a key role in promoting excellent practice in Adult Social Services.

This post has recently been extended to full-time following a recent internal restructure and we recognise the value of the support officer role in developing this new service area. It is advertised as a full-time post, but a job share would be considered as the roles are easy to separate into support for Quality Assurance and support for Learning and Development.

You will work under the supervision of the Principal Occupational Therapist for Adults and Children and the Principal Social Worker for Adults. We have an excellent team of experienced and knowledgeable staff who will support you as much as you support them.

For Quality Assurance and Policy/Strategy:

You will support the development of robust systems and processes which will enable us to fully embed our Quality Assurance Framework and align it to the new Care Quality Commission inspection guidance. Our Quality Assurance Framework is designed to ensure the best possible outcomes for people with care and support needs in Adult Social Services.

For Learning and Development:

You will support the team both through practical support when delivering training and conferences, but also through analysis of staff surveys to identify where gaps need to be filled, working closely with business support to ensure clear communications to staff.

We have recently reviewed our vision for developing the workforce and plan to deliver a robust and diverse range of development opportunities. As this part of the role is new, there will be an element of test and change.

For both roles:

You will have a proven track record of applying a wide range of organisational, analytical and administrative skills to help support the development of new systems and projects.

Among other duties, you will use your outstanding ICT skills to coordinate, collate and support the analysis of a range of qualitative and quantitative data using Microsoft Office software. A creative problem-solving approach is beneficial.

This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

For an informal discussion, please contact Jo Hopkins, Principal Occupational Therapist on 07789 943017 or Richard Orson, Principal Social Worker on 07776 170122.

Anticipated interview date:       Friday 27 May 2022

North Somerset Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all sections of our community regardless of age, disability, sex, race, religion, belief or sexual orientation. North Somerset Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
