This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of people and reducing health inequalities in Tower Hamlets. You will work as part of the Healthy Communities team.

We are looking for an experienced and competent person to join our unique team of Public Health Programme Managers working to enable communities to drive change at the local level and embed strategic insight across the Council, to influence positive health outcomes and address health inequalities in Tower Hamlets.

The main duties will involve the post holder contributing to three or more programme areas (e.g. managing the Community Navigators service, contributing to a multi-agency Locality Health and Wellbeing Committee, developing programmes to reduce loneliness across the life course, improving access to services by deprived and marginalised communities, using community insight to shape and co-produce services). The post holder will work across the public health department, the council and with wider partners, including NHS, CCG, universities and community and voluntary organisations.

This role will involve supervision of staff, trainees and volunteers and leading on agreed projects and programmes. In addition, the postholder may be required to support COVID-19 activity.

You will deliver a programme of work to address the following aspirations:

•      Strong networks, partnerships and coalitions connecting people, gathering community insight, shaping and co-producing services and supporting healthier lives

•      Accessible and appropriate services that are integrated by a shared commitment and approach to improving health and wellbeing

•      Well utilised community assets and services promoting health and wellbeing, cohesion and addressing abuse, violence, discrimination and the impact of crime 

Key Responsibilities

As an experienced public health professional, you will help drive the Healthy Communities programmes by employing a diverse skill set that includes:

  • Strategy and partnership working
  • Community engagement and communications
  • Planning, commissioning and delivery
  • Innovation, evaluation and research
  • Logic modelling around outcomes
  • Insight and intelligence
  • Developing public health skills and leadership
  • Management of budgets and resources

You will report to the Healthy Communities Programme Lead and will assist on all aspects of the Healthy Communities programme, taking the lead for specific programme areas as agreed. The post holder will deputise for the Programme Lead where required.

Requirements

You will need to hold a masters level qualification in Public Health or related subject or equivalent experience, have a strong commitment to public health principles and significant experience of public health practice.

Additional Information

You are likely to be requested to be available for occasional evening and weekend meetings, subject to the requirements of the work programme.
