The Medway Test operates annually for Year 6 children wishing to apply to attend Medway selective (grammar) schools from Year 7. We test around 4,000 children every year and your role in this is vital to ensure that the Medway Test Extended Writing paper is marked in a fair, consistent and objective way. This is a great opportunity for you to be involved in an important part of Medway’s school system.

The salary for the role is an initial payment of £300.00 (which covers attendance the mandatory training and the first 50 scripts marked). An additional fee of £3.10 per script marked will be paid after the 50th script. Please expect to mark approximately 200 Extended Writing test scripts.

It is mandatory for you to attend training for this role and further details are in the application form. Training is subject to a successful application and confirmation assignment email by the 26 August 2022, however, if you do not hear from us by this date your application has not been successful.

  • We will allocate markers to schools ensuring that there is no conflict of interest when marking scripts. Please note, if you are already involved in the Medway Test at a Medway School as a Test Lead, an Invigilator, involved in the planning or on the day co-ordination of any aspect of the test, or provide pastoral support for pupils sitting the test, we are unable to recruit you as a marker.

We require that you personally collect and return your allocated scripts to Medway Council Gun Wharf and submit electronic marks by spreadsheet via secure email to medwaytest@medway.gov.uk in accordance with the scheduled dates and times provided at the training session.

Your availability is required for the following dates:

  • Tuesday 13 September 2022
  • Sunday 18 September 2022
  • Wednesday 21 September 2022
