The Wellbeing Service is a collaboration between YMCA DLG, Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust and Southdown. As part of the Children & Young People’s (CYP) Wellbeing Service, YMCA DLG offer a range of short-term interventions tailored to young people’s presenting needs and age.
We are looking for a permanent, part-time (15 hours per week) Wellbeing Ethnicities Counsellor to join our experienced and enthusiastic counselling team working within the CYP Wellbeing Service. You will provide assessments and counselling for children and young people from mixed or black and minority ethnic (BAME) groups aged 8-24 years. The role will include building partnerships with other BAME services and an advisory role to CYP service managers and clinical leads regarding service user participation, co-production and staff recruitment, advising on the particular needs of minority ethnic groups in therapeutic services.
You will carry out individual mental health assessments with children and young people (aged 8 - 24) in local settings and support triage to the relevant treatment option. You will also deliver 1-1 and groupwork counselling sessions to young people from mixed race and BAME communities, through online and face-to-face appointments. In addition, you will support parents / adult caregivers in their understanding of the referral and treatment process, as appropriate, in a professional and compassionate manor.
Your expected working pattern will include Monday 10am-6pm and Tuesday 11am-7pm - Some flexibility can be considered regarding the days. This will be a face-to-face role based in Brighton & Hove.
Who You Are
You will be a qualified counsellor; a Graduate or Post Graduate Counselling Diploma with 2+ years experience post qualification and BACP Registered/Accredited or registered with another recognised professional body (e.g. UKCP, HCPC, BAAT, BAMT, BADth). You will be a professional from BAME background or mixed ethnicity; with experience of delivering specialist counselling, mental health assessments, supporting mixed & BAME children and young people who have mild to moderate mental health difficulties. In addition, you will have safeguarding knowledge and commitment to Trauma-Informed practice.

As part of our commitment to being a Trauma-Informed Organisation, all frontline staff have access to regular group Reflective Practice Supervision and for therapeutic roles, we offer clinical supervision.
