As an early adopter, Camden is leading the way on fire and building safety. We are expanding our team and recruiting to these new posts to help develop the Council’s building safety cases and manage compliance across its asset base.

The role
This is a key role with responsibility for identifying and defining technical practices and procedures with regard to building maintenance, contributing to the Camden Plan objectives of ensuring our properties are safe and fit for purpose.

In this role, you be will leading on compiling and maintaining key building information to comply with the Building Safety Bill (when enacted) including undertaking building surveys, reviewing technical documents and commissioning surveys (where necessary) to facilitate the production of Building Safety Cases. You will be the technical lead addressing any gaps in technical information for the circa 150 Buildings in scope.

The role will also be responsible for the delivery of Camden’s surveying role across built assets including M&E services and may include management of works packages to the value of £10m.

The role is also responsible for the vetting and approval of requests from residents of residential property for alterations to their homes.

Working closely with senior staff, in this role you will be expected to work to high standards of technical and contract management practice, as well as work closely with and support other colleagues in the team to ensure consistency in practice and outcomes.

About you
We are looking for someone with significant technical knowledge and surveying/quality inspection experience. Your experience will also include drafting technical specifications for building fabric and/or M&E works. The successful post holder will need to have an appropriate surveying or engineering qualification, or equivalent experience.

You will have a proven ability to achieve agreed objectives when following policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role you will be an innovative team player who is able to use initiative. You will have excellent interpersonal skills including influencing and negotiating. You will have experience managing contractors, including FM services contracts.

It is important to have a clear understanding and appreciation of sustainability and environmental issues in relation to construction and building maintenance.
