Location: Mobile Worker – our new system of agile working means that although your work base will be the Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare, you will also be able to work from home.
Hours: 37 hours per week

Do you want to work for a council that is putting health and safety at the forefront of its work? North Somerset Council is looking for a Health and Safety Manager who can ensure we do just that.
The successful applicant will be our Competent Person for the council and will manage our small and friendly Corporate and Schools Health and Safety Team, which forms part of our wider People Services function. We are passionate about developing and implementing new health and safety practices and performance that drive compliance whilst maintaining strong working relationships. This role will be instrumental in delivering high quality services and, as a member of our People Strategy Board, leading on the roll out of our Directorate Steering Groups and progressing the health and safety actions that have been developed and published as part of our brand new People Strategy.
You will need to be a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH) CMIOSH or equivalent degree level and be both qualified and competent in Fire Safety. You need to be able to undertake Fire Risk Assessments, develop Fire Safety Strategies and be similarly qualified in Construction Safety.
You will lead on the development and delivery of our Health and Safety and Fire Safety training programmes, which include both face to face and virtual sessions and implementing e-learning for all sectors of the council.
You should also have experience of working with both regional and national networking bodies.
You will need to have extensive experience in working within a local authority and with schools together with both knowledge and experience of working with enforcing authorities, contractors, event organisers etc.
To succeed in this role, you will excel at both strategic and operational levels, be passionate about Health and Safety and Fire safety and demonstrate an ability to provide pragmatic guidance and advice to managers and employees across a wide range of topics.
