Building Control Apprentice
Contract: Fixed term (48 months)
Hours of work: 36 hours per week
Location: Civic centre and other locations from time to time
Key functionalities
Working within a multi- discipline area team to provide assistance to team members.
- Assisting in consulting internal departments and external organisations in respect of proposals for construction work.
- Building sound working relationships with team members and applicants and their professional teams to provide high standards of customer care.
- Assisting in the drafting of technical correspondence and consents to applicants and their professional agents in connection with proposals submitted. Identifying areas of non-compliance requiring further action.
- Attending meetings and assisting in negotiations with applicants in respect of proposals under the Building Regulations.
- Assisting in the checking of plans in respect of applications made under the Building Regulations and the London Building Acts (Amendment) Act1939
- Carrying out site inspections of works in progress, under the direction and supervision of the senior colleagues, exercising discretion and tact in the application of requirements.
- To become conversant with the office’s computerised systems and keep accurate records of actions taken, including site inspections.
You will gain hands-on experience of what it is like to work in a building control department within Local Government, working as part of a team assisting in the delivery of a quality service within our community.
Simultaneously undertaking a comprehensive study programme, working towards your Building Control Surveyor degree qualification. You will gain valuable knowledge and skills which will be an asset to the council and your career. No experience is necessary as this is a training role, however, an understanding of the role is advantageous.
You will also need to have an interest in local government and the delivery of public services.
You need to have a flexible and positive approach to work as well as being reliable, punctual and willing to learn.
Good communication skills.
A well as an interest in a career within surveying, you will need to show your interest in local government and the delivery of public services.
