The post-holder will support the Trading Standards Team to deliver a comprehensive range of enforcement services. The Service manages key priorities for the Council, one of which is the operation of the Bogus Caller Partnership and maintenance of ‘No Cold Calling Zones’. Together with protection of vulnerable house-holders from trading scams, this provides a key responsibility for this post. The role is also to provide trading standards enforcement activities through projects, partnership working, case-work and pro-active initiatives.
The Service is active in a range of priorities including under-age sales prevention, letting and agents, product safety and fraud prevention.
This is an active field officer post and you will need to be mobile with the ability to conduct site visits, exercise warrants, visit residents and carry out enforcement for the wide range of duties undertaken by our Service. You will need to be a motivated self-starter with good organisational abilities and be a completer / finisher with a personal case-load.
You will need to be assertive with good communication and negotiation skills used to require businesses to comply with best practice. You will also develop and implement project based enforcement operations working in partnership with authorities, particularly, Police and Fire Services, businesses plus other local authority teams. You will need the full range of investigation and report writing skills and ability to represent the Service in any proceedings
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a record of achievement and a commitment to supporting vulnerable victims, consumers and compliant businesses within the borough.
The post requires occasional out of hours working to help delivery of our priorities.
A full driving licence or alternative means of travel to multiple sites around the borough is essential. Officers using their cars on Council business are paid a mileage allowance.
