About The Job

Salary: £20,903 - £28,672 per annum, depending on skills and experience
Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week
Contract Length: Fixed term or Secondment, ending October 2022.
Location: County Hall, Chichester and working from home

This post offers an opportunity to work directly with county councillors and senior officers, whilst working in a dynamic team environment where personal development is supported.

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the smooth operation of the County Council's democratic processes. This will include a range of administrative tasks such as arranging and clerking meetings, agenda and minute preparation and data handling. Key elements of this role will involve providing support to one of the Council's scrutiny committees and to an external partnership organisation.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills both written and verbal, and a strong attention to detail. The successful applicant will be experienced in working with processes and procedures, working to deadlines and have good IT skills. An understanding of how local government works would be an advantage. The role requires well-developed inter-personal skills as the post holder will be in regular contact with a wide range of people in a complex environment.

Experience and Skills

You will be able to work independently, confidently and flexibly to balance priorities and to competently organise your own workload.

You will be confident working on your initiative to make informed decisions and to respond appropriately to unanticipated problems and situations in the delivery of the service to councillors, senior officers, internal clients, external partners / organisations and the general public.

You will be able to inspire the confidence and trust of councillors through the provision of a high level of discretion, excellent communication skills and well-developed administrative skills and IT competence. Previous experience in Democratic Services is desirable but not essential for this role.
