The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is responsible for delivering a wide range of service to our residents and we are looking for an Equalities and Community Engagement Officer who can play a lead role in strengthening our approach to equalities and diversity, in developing the council’s consultation and engagement with residents and partners, and in building stronger relationships with the voluntary and community sector.
It is an exciting time to join the council. We have worked in closer partnership with our communities and the voluntary sector during the pandemic, and now we want to strengthen those relationships. We are developing new approaches to Engagement and Equalities and you will help shape the direction of these pieces of work.
The role is pivotal to building on the equalities and community engagement work the council has carried out during the pandemic and we have a strong community champions cohort who regularly share our messaging. But we always want to do more, and this role will help building those relationships and making them stronger. You will work closely with the teams undertaking engagement work, helping to embed and strengthen those relationships.
You will need to be able to work on your own initiative, as well as work as part of a small team within communications. This post will have strong links to the Head of Strategy and work closely with the policy team as we work to develop a new engagement strategy.
We are looking for someone who can engage with a wide range of officers to embed an evidence-based approach to promoting equalities and diversity within all plans and policies, including through equality impact assessments. You will need to be comfortable building relationships and providing trusted advice at all levels of the organisation with officers and councillors. You will have excellent written and verbal communications as well as being motivated, creative, organised and have an interest in current affairs.
This is an exciting role for someone who has a passion for interacting with the community, in promoting equality and in building on the work we have already completed during the pandemic.
If you would like to have an informal chat about the role please call Louisa Dean, Head of Communications on 01628 796410 or Becky Hatch, Head of Strategy on 07811 339312.
