About the role
This post is based within the Flood Risk Management team which discharges the County Council’s role as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) for East Sussex. A critical aspect of the responsibilities of the LLFA is providing detailed assessments of planning applications and their impact on localised flood risk. Working with internal and external partners you will scrutinise planning applications in line with government guidance, the County Council’s policies and industry standards in terms of local flood risk and make the appropriate recommendations to the Local Planning Authority. You will also be expected to negotiate with developers and their agents in securing the best practical outcome in terms of SuDS design and the mitigation of local flood risk and provide support to the Principal Drainage Officer.
Experience in using GIS (preferably QGIS) and drainage design software (Micro Drainage) is essential for this highly technical role. Some experience with flood modelling software would be beneficial as you may undertake local surface water studies and work with consultancies to develop business cases for submission for Grant in Aid or Local Levy funding.
There will be opportunities to widen your experience of flood risk management and you may be required to assist local planning officers in determining the acceptability of sites in flood risk terms, provide technical input to policy work and engage with local communities in identifying solutions to local flooding problems.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
