About the role

This post is based within the Flood Risk Management team which discharges the County Council’s role as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) for East Sussex. A critical aspect of the responsibilities of the LLFA is providing detailed assessments of planning applications and their impact on localised flood risk. Working with internal and external partners you will scrutinise planning applications in line with government guidance, the County Council’s policies, and industry standards in terms of local flood risk and make the appropriate recommendations to the Local Planning Authority. This will also involve providing the team’s Drainage Officer with technical direction on planning casework.

You will lead negotiations on major schemes with developers and their agents in securing the best practical outcome in terms of SuDS design and the mitigation of local flood risk. You will engage with the Local Planning Authorities on the development of their local plans and also play a significant part in developing and improving our consultee role.

Experience in using GIS (preferably QGIS) and drainage design software (Micro Drainage) is essential for this highly technical role. Experience of flood modelling software is also important as you will participate in, or lead investigations  (dependent upon workloads) into flood events and the development of  solutions.
