About the role
Do you want to be part of an expanding team of dedicated people helping to protect and serve? If so, East Sussex Trading Standards is looking for you!
The Trading Standards Team uses a wide range of consumer protection legislation to make sure goods and services sold and provided within the county are safe and legal. We cover a diverse and interesting range of areas such as product safety, animal health and welfare, illicit markets, food standards and counterfeit goods. We use a combination of advice, support and guidance as well as formal criminal prosecutions to ensure the County is kept safe.
We are looking for two Fair Trading Officers with the right candidates bringing their knowledge and skills from either another consumer protection environment or other enforcement/regulatory agency.
We will provide extensive additional and continued learning to help the successful candidate interpret and enforce the wide range of consumer protection legislation using an intelligence-led approach to tackle unfair and unsafe trading practices throughout the county. Our fully funded training support is leading the way for the profession and in turn this could then give potential for progression within this forward thinking and dynamic service.
Together we make a difference and make headlines! Check out local and national media for what we have achieved this past year.
Whilst the jobs are based in Lewes, we have for some years offered a very flexible working approach which supports a positive work life balance, focusing on the outcomes of your work rather than the location of where you achieve it from. During the pandemic we have further advanced this approach with leading edge technology that equip our officers to work from home, from an office or from the middle of a farmer’s field! Our flexible working will enable us to consider part-time working or a job share.
If you would like to discuss this role further, please call the Trading Standards Team Manager, Richard Strawson on 07803 575998, or Paul Davison, Enforcement & Investigations Manager on 07827 980181.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
