Integrated Services for Learning is part of Hertfordshire County Council’s Children's Service. Our teams work with babies, children and young people with a range of needs including autism and other communication difficulties, sensory and physical impairments and specific learning difficulties.

We currently have an opportunity for a Curriculum Access Specialist within the Vision Impairment Team.

You will work across Hertfordshire under the guidance of the Curriculum Access Specialist Coordinators and Specialist Advisory Teachers. You will work with children and young people with vision impairment within schools or early years settings, providing direct classroom support, preparing teaching and learning materials and modelling best practice. You will help these learners to develop their Braille and specialist ICT skills.

You will also train and mentor school staff in the skills required to produce accessible, high-quality curriculum materials and support the development of specialist technology skills. You will need good overall ICT skills and will have experience of successfully supporting children or young people and adults in a learning situation.

A working knowledge of Braille is a requirement for this post and training will be provided. You will be required to pass the RNIB Certificate in Contracted Braille (UEB) course and exam. In addition to this, you will be required to undertake the VIEW Partners in Learning – Advanced Certificate for education support staff.  You will have two years to successfully complete both courses.

Applicants who do not have the RNIB Certificate in Contracted Braille and VIEW Partners in Learning Certificate will be appointed at H4.

Part time applications will be considered for candidates with relevant experience.
