Following the creation of our SuperWeston placemaking programme for Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset Council is recruiting a dedicated team to drive its delivery.

Our aim is to realise Weston’s potential as a model for twenty-first century seaside towns.  We are building on the feedback from thousands of people, we are on a journey to re-imagine and repurpose the town, step by step, to become a thriving and vital place to live, work and visit.  A major milestone on our journey will be See Monster project, arriving in May 2022 as part of the Unboxed Festival.

Our vision for Weston-super-Mare encompasses skills and business support, new and better homes, reinventing the retail core of the town centre and building its experience economy with heritage, art and culture at its centre.

This will involve supporting projects as varied as Heritage Action Zone delivery, our plans for Birnbeck Pier, next year’s See Monster project, and elements of the SuperWeston placemaking programme including improvements to wayfinding & signage for Weston Town Centre, alternative uses for empty shops and offices and working with our partners in the arts and cultural sector.

You can expect to be preparing key project documentation, managing monitoring systems, supporting meetings and stakeholder events and compiling progress reports.  You will be supporting multi-disciplinary teams that include specialists in placemaking, heritage, events planning & management, arts & cultural development and communications.

If you would like to join us in delivering these important programmes, you will need to be able to demonstrate

  • A good understanding of key project management processes and experience of preparing key project documents
  • Experience of collating data and preparing reports
  • Experience of working with capital and revenue budgets
  • An ability to work flexibly and respond to changing priorities
