Following the creation of our SuperWeston placemaking programme for Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset Council is recruiting a dedicated team to drive its delivery.
Our aim is to realise Weston’s potential as a model for twenty-first century seaside towns. We are building on the feedback from thousands of people, we are on a journey to re-imagine and repurpose the town, step by step, to become a thriving and vital place to live, work and visit. A major milestone on our journey will be See Monster project, arriving in May 2022 as part of the Unboxed Festival.
Our vision for Weston-super-Mare encompasses skills and business support, new and better homes, reinventing the retail core of the town centre and building its experience economy with heritage, art and culture at its centre.
We are looking for a creative placemaking professional who can lead our integrated programme management arrangements and the delivery of a varied portfolio of projects including reinventing our seafront concessions, developing a programme of meanwhile uses, creating new wayfinding solutions, defining the future purpose of key building and bidding for funding.
You will be working alongside team members developing a strategic events programme for the town, building up the town’s arts & culture offer and leading our communications work.
If you would like to join us on the journey to create Weston’s future, you will need to be able to demonstrate
- An understanding of placemaking principles and how they can be applied creatively to the SuperWeston programme
- A strong track record in programme design and project delivery
- Experience of working with capital and revenue budgets
- Experience of successfully bidding for funding
- Experience managing project teams and contractors working on projects with differing stakeholders and drivers
- An ability to work successfully across organisational boundaries, engage stakeholders and build partnerships
- A commitment to the objectives of the programme
