We are pleased to be recruiting into our Children Placements Service which is a well-resourced team that has recently been expanded.  The Children Placements Team work in partnership with a wide range of internal and external partners to secure the right placements and services for our children and young people who for a variety of reasons are not living with their family. 

You will benefit from working with an experienced and stable management team, alongside dedicated and supportive peers who work incredibly hard to ensure our children and young people live in stable, safe homes where they can fulfil their potential and enjoy positive, rewarding relationships. 

The Consultant Social Worker is part of team working to identify, source and commission suitable in-house or external accommodation for our children looked after and as part of the placement process various tasks/notifications will need to be made, including information management, compliance, brokerage and payments services on behalf of Croydon Children’s Services.  As part of your role, you will also have the opportunity to supervise a number of Contract & Placement Officers, support/stabilise placements, visit providers and check the quality of care and accommodation our children receive.  You will be a confident and compassionate communicator, who will represent the very best of Croydon and our service to both internal and external partners.  This will include advanced negotiation skills, chairing placement stability meetings, presenting placement options to senior leaders, supporting team members in personal and group supervision, monitoring placements and achieving value for money.    

Our aim is to provide carefully matched placements in accordance with the child/young person’s care needs that closely consider the child/young person’s health, education, cultural, ethnic, religious and therapeutic needs.   The Consultant Social Worker will have responsibility for supervising and leading a number of team members as well as taking the lead in practice areas.  Relationships in this role are key, relationships with your team, our social care staff and our external providers while keeping the needs of our children at the centre of your thinking.  You will have a keen eye for detail and will effectively quality assure Placement Requests/Referrals, manage & support with the screening and collating placement and resource options and presenting these to the social work teams.  As part of your role, you will act as duty manager for the placement service and will be flexible in supporting your team via a can do attitude while keeping our children at the centre of your thinking.   

You will need to have good inter-professional and organisation skills and be able to work as part of team and as an individual.  You need to be able work under pressure as some of our searches are time limited – however, you will also feel the reward of seeing children and young people moving to stable homes/placements that you have sourced.
