About the role

Healthy Lifestyles Manager

Leading the Community Health Trainer Team within Public Health

Do you have the skills, the ambition and the vision to help us make Brighton & Hove a healthier city?

Could you provide inspirational leadership to a team of passionate highly skilled behaviour change specialists who support our residents to quit smoking, reduce alcohol use, achieve a healthy weight, get more physically active and build personal resilience and good mental and emotional health and wellbeing?

Are you able to motivate and mobilise a broad network of local professionals and volunteers to become partners in supporting our health improvement agenda? Do you have the experience, the confidence and the character to be able to design, coordinate and lead training to equip them with behaviour change skills that will make a real difference to people’s lives?

Are you able to work strategically to effectively promote public health among local stakeholders including NHS organisations, other council teams, third sector and voluntary organisations and the communities we serve?

Do you have a track record of successful innovation in delivering service improvements to best meet the needs of diverse communities and maximise value for public money?

Are you committed to addressing health inequalities by targeting evidence-based interventions at those communities who most need them?

If so, you might be the candidate we are looking for to lead the Brighton & Hove Council’s Community Health Trainer Team as a Healthy Lifestyle Manager within Public Health.

This is a full-time (37 hours per week) and permanent role with the council’s public health team. Due to COVID, the position will involve some home working though a return to office-based working, primarily, is envisioned over time. The role will require some travel to council sites and other locations across Brighton and Hove.

We welcome applications from all suitable candidates and especially from under-represented communities such as Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and people with disabilities.

Interviews will take place in January 2022, dates to be confirmed. If you would like an informal discussion about this role, please contact Jimmy.Burke@brighton-hove.gov.uk

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and upload a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Work Permits: We may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Please see Gov.uk for more information on the Skilled Worker Visa.

Company information

Please note that this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and is subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community but particularly encourage applicants from a BME or White Other background as well as those who identify as disabled, male or trans as these groups are currently under-represented in our Directorate workforce.
