The Housing Department was restructured in 2017 in preparation for the introduction of the new Homelessness Reduction Act in April 2018. There are two operational teams, The Housing Solutions Team, which this role sits within and The Housing Property Team. We recently achieved the NPSS Bronze Award and are striving to improve further!
The Housing Caseworker will assist in managing demand for the council’s housing services. This will be done by managing expectations while offering advice and assistance to members of the public to proactively retain their existing accommodation or access the full range of alternative housing options which may be available to them across all tenures.
This role will act as a caseworker to clients who approach the council with a housing need. The Housing Caseworker will provide advice and assistance to help the client resolve their housing issues through the production of a personal housing plan which may address wider issues than their housing needs and could involve referrals to other agencies.
What we are looking for:
- Experience and working knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, associated legislation and housing options
- High levels of persuasion and negotiation skills
- Experience of working in a customer-facing environment
- Experience of working as a Housing Caseworker
