Youth Worker - Detached x2 positions
Fixed term contract until 31.3.2022 with further funding for the following 12 months to be finalised
An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for enthusiastic individuals to join the authority’s youth service team and help provide a range of activities, mentor, support and provide information and guidance to young people through a detached youth work model.
As a Detached Youth Worker you will work as part of a small team of youth workers, in engaging young people on a detached basis on their own territory. The Detached Youth Worker will also be responsible for planning and delivery of a full programme of activities and intervention for young people taking into account their views.
You will develop strong links with partners and surrounding community in order to help meet the needs of the young people and community; to provide a comprehensive and holistic programme of work, whilst also addressing barriers some young people may face.
The role requires a minimum of a level 3 qualification in Youth and Community Work and EWC registration under the category of Youth Support Worker or Working towards or a willingness to achieve the level 3 qualification in Youth and Community Work and EWC registration within a reasonable timeframe following appointment. (Please note if you already hold a qualification listed within EWC guidance you have to have a valid EWC registration before commencing in post)
Previous experience of working with young people through a detached work model is also desirable.
Required skills include;
- excellent interpersonal / communication skills with the ability to relate to and enthuse young people,
- the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team,
- the ability to assess the needs of young people and develop appropriate programme of works, and
- a high level of personal resilience, including the ability to manage conflict and deal with stressful situations.
