About the role

Exciting Leadership Opportunity!

After 12 years of successful leadership our Headteacher, Tony Smith, is retiring. We are looking for a new Headteacher to build on everything he has achieved and take us to the next level.

Priory School is the only state secondary school in the county town of Lewes. We were rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in May 2018 and we aim to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ grade at the next inspection. Our staff are committed, energetic, proactive, motivated and caring. Our school has a clear and ambitious vision based on 5 ‘Star’ Values which were generated by the students.

Strong subject specialisms form a firm foundation for developing student knowledge and skills, both within and across a wide range of disciplines. Inclusion is at the heart of
everything we do; we are committed to enhancing the life chances of all of our students and have especially high aspirations for those with SEND and all those who are more disadvantaged.

The successful candidate will embrace our culture and ethos but challenge us to aim for greater success in all aspects of school life. We want a Headteacher who will ensure that all our students leave Priory with the skills, qualities and knowledge needed to thrive in life, learning and work:

We believe we are more than good, but we are determined to be even better.

This is a very exciting opportunity. Our school has excellent facilities, sound finances, and a strong leadership team.  We are an integral part of a really interesting town within a beautiful area, at the heart of the South Downs.

Visits to the school from potential applicants are welcome. To make arrangements please contact Justine Klemenz by email: jk@priory.e-sussex.sch.uk.

For a recruitment pack please contact: Leadership.Recruitment@eastsussex.gov.uk

Please note that recruitment packs for this vacancy will only be provided directly to an individual considering applying to our school for this opportunity.  This school does not enter into business with Recruitment Agencies, or other commercial organisations, on behalf of their clients seeking employment.

Priory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations.

If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2018 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
