Appointment of an Independent Auditor Panel
Horsham District Council invites applications from anyone who wishes to serve on its Independent Auditor Panel, to assist it in its duty to appoint and oversee the work of its external auditor.
By law, the Council must include the involvement of at least two people independent of the Council. One of these people will be the chair of the Panel. These people, when appointed, will be required to attend electronic or face to face meetings, to participate in discussions and to give advice to the Council. Meetings will be held during the working day and in the early evening.
We are looking for candidates with skills or knowledge in:
a. local authority finance
b. accountancy (public sector or commercial)
c. audit processes and regulation (public or private sector, external/ local audit or internal audit)
d. the role and responsibilities (statutory duties) of a local public auditor in local government.
This role will pay an allowance of £1,000 a year and reimbursement of expenses, if any. The appointment will be for a fixed term from mid-February until the completion of the audit of the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2028. Subject to any delays in the audit, we expect this to end on 30 September 2028.
