About the role
We are seeking Relief Driver/Passenger Assistant staff to join our transport teams in the Lewes, Eastbourne, Crowborough, Bexhill and Hastings areas. This vital work helps to ensure that some of our most vulnerable residents can access day care services across East Sussex.
In this casual role, you will provide holiday and sickness cover for our permanent minibus drivers and passenger assistants.
Shift times may vary; however, a typical day will usually involve a split shift covering a morning run (7:45am to 10:45am) and an afternoon run (2:45pm to 5:30pm). Additional hours may also be available in the middle of the day or in the evenings (until 8pm).
Our transport crews work in teams of two and share driving and passenger assistant duties.
Please note that our minibuses are 16-seat wheelchair accessible vehicles. A full, clean, UK driving licence with category D1 is essential for this post.
The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and the natural environment. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. We are looking for people who can help us to improve the links between the areas we operate in, such as using libraries, improving adult literacy, transporting vulnerable people to the shops to help keep them independent or installing high speed broadband to support businesses to modernise.
Within the Transport Hub, we provide vital connections into the public transport network across the county to help people go about their daily lives, from getting their shopping done to visiting family and friends. We transport thousands of children to school every day, we provide transport for some of the most vulnerable people in our area and we help people who don’t have the opportunity to access public or private transport. We help public transport services to change and adapt to infrastructure and demands, by doing things like supporting the introduction of real-time passenger information at bus stops or re-routing services around roadworks. Ultimately, we see it as our job to “keep the wheels running” around the county.
This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
