Duties of the post:

We are looking for a talented individual, on a temporary basis, to join our team who is informed on waste prevention, recycling and waste, with significant technical competence in waste collection and disposal as well as project management experience.

As Waste Projects, Data and Education Officer, you will provide support planning, implementation, ongoing analysis and evaluation of the food waste collection trial. 

You will be able to investigate and communicate examples of best practice and service development in other local authorities and propose how these might be adopted/adapted for use in Adur & Worthing.

This is an exciting opportunity that requires waste collection and disposal experience and an ability to effectively and efficiently, problem solve complex challenges and issues at pace.

Key Skills: 

Good analytical skills in order to interpret and manipulate very varied and complex project information in relation to projects and initiatives required by the partnership.

  1. Ability to organise, plan and meet set targets e.g. for timely completion of projects.
  2. Developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with a range of partners/stakeholders and create and maintain effective working relationships and provide coaching to partners/colleagues on process or documentation.
  3. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, planning solutions and making sound pragmatic decisions which will have a direct impact on the business/service/partnership.
  4. Provide coaching to colleagues/partners on process documentation and its use in practice. Ability to plan and give demonstrations and provide training support and briefings.
  5. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills in order to understand very complex technical project information, contracts and to check statistical financial information and other documents.

  Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Experience in waste prevention, recycling and waste with significant technical competence in waste collection and disposal. - desirable
  • Experience of working in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment and of working within project management systems / practices and providing effective support.
  • Experience of project planning, and of planning more than one project or project work stream
  • Experience supporting the management and delivery of successful change projects demonstrated by working as a competent member of a project team, ideally in a project support role or equivalent. Evidence of working in a Junior Project Manager role.
  • Experience in partnership working and relationship management.
  • Excellent IT knowledge in order to produce strategies, policies and reports, and present statistical information in a coherent, easy to understand manner

Essential 

GCSE standard of education Grade C or above

Knowledge of waste and cleansing

Knowledge of Project planning and delivery

Previous experience at managing Operational Projects
