We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic and dynamic self-starter to deliver the Council’s Communications function and support our work for local government reorganisation. You will have a passion for good communications to help us engage effectively with our residents, businesses, staff and other stakeholders.
You will play a key role in promoting the Council undertaking a wide range of duties and delivering effective communications activities including liaising with local and national media, initiating and writing press releases to generate positive media coverage, helping to maintain the Council’s website and intranet plus creating and posting content to the Council’s social media channels.
You will also be responsible for leading on communications projects, creating and implementing targeted communications plans and producing the Council’s Annual Report.
You will write articles and produce content for the media, social media, website and other communications channels, ensuring that it is factual, topical and concise. You will also be on hand for any ad-hoc duties that may arise, supporting the Communications, Customer Service and Partnerships Manager. The role also includes occasional out-of-hours work; taking photos and representing the Council at various events.
It is an exciting time to join the council as we progress towards becoming part of a new unitary authority for North Yorkshire. You will be keen to take the initiative, able to keep cool under pressure and juggle the many demands of the job with professionalism, sound judgment and good humour. You must be degree level educated and have significant experience in public relations and/or journalism and/or internal communications, and a proven track record of excellent communications skills.
