About the role

Northease Manor School is an Independent Special School approved by the DfE as co-educational day school for students primarily with specific learning difficulties including Dyslexia as well as developmental needs such as Autism, sensory processing difficulties and developmental coordination disorder and social, emotional and mental health needs. Within our adapted environment and with adjustments in place, students are typically able to access the National Curriculum in line with their chronological age and able to achieve at GCSE level.

We are known and respected for providing high quality teaching, therapy and pastoral support. We promote and recognise that each student is an individual with individual needs, acknowledging that a diagnosis will only provide part of the picture for each student. Our integrated approach to therapy, coupled with the small and close community we have here at Northease, enables us to understand students as a whole and use that knowledge to ensure the best outcomes for each student.

Our location, a spacious country site built round an 18th century manor house, gives everyone room to grow, and develop in a true community with a family feel and we are an easy commute from Brighton, Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne.

The school’s approach to meeting the needs of students is holistic, and this is an opportunity to join a dynamic team that involves Occupational Therapists, teachers, support and pastoral staff, who are dedicated to enabling Northease Manor to continue as a centre of excellence.
The post includes daily opportunities for direct therapy (1:1, paired and small group), work in the classroom co-delivering alongside teaching staff, the development of student Therapy Passports and whole school approaches, as well as a focus on developing Preparation for Adulthood skills.

Our most recent Ofsted report (March 2018), where we were rated good across all areas says: ‘A strong theme that emerged was the major difference that Northease Manor makes to pupils’ confidence, well-being and self-esteem. In describing these and similar aspects of the school’s work, parents repeatedly used words such as ‘amazing’, ‘exceptional’, ‘thriving’ and ‘transformed’. One parent summed up the sentiment of many by writing simply: ‘The school changed my child’s life and gave us hope…  Very effective use of training, including working in close partnership with the therapy team, is supporting improvements well’

Staff wellbeing is a top priority at Northease Manor and we offer a comprehensive wellbeing package including an Employee Assist programme, Eyecare plan and a free lunch every day.
Further details about the school and about this post can be found on the school’s website www.northease.co.uk If you have energy, enthusiasm and a burning passion to make a difference, and if you are inspired by School’s nurturing, holistic, accepting approach, this could be the perfect job for you.

Northease Manor is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be expected to obtain an enhanced DBS disclosure.
