The Learning Disability Service has recently and still is in the process of modernising its services which has resulted in the creation of the Generic Support Worker.
This role differs to the historical way in which Support Workers have been employed in the past as it offers the Support Worker a more flexible way of working.

What it's like working in our team...
We are a small team who works closely together to make sure we are providing the best support to the individuals who use our service. Sometimes the work is challenging, however, there is also time for finding creative solutions and every day is different.
The role of the Generic Support Worker is to not only to support the Senior Support Workers in the day to day running of the services, but to be creative in what we can as a service deliver.
You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training...
As a Generic Support Worker, you will not be confined to working in one part of the service. The post is varied and includes supporting people in the following areas:
- Day Services
- Well Being & Leisure
- Activities in the community
The role provides the opportunity to develop diverse activities and although it can be challenging at times, is extremely rewarding with the knowledge that you are having a positive impact on people’s lives.
All staff receive a comprehensive induction and training programme on commencing the post and are fully supported throughout by Managers, providing regular one to one meetings and Team Meetings.
We are committed to the development and training of our staff team in the required training for the post. We can also provide individual qualifications/training which would benefit those that use the services.
You will also be supported to:
- Develop and support a wide range of interesting and socially inclusive activities for people using the Service.
- Implement the Policies and Procedures of the Department and of the individual Services/Teams.
- Ensure good communications within the whole LD service so that the service to individuals is coordinated and safe.
- Participate in all appropriate internal/external training as identified through the supervision and appraisal system and utilise the skills and knowledge gained to improve services to individuals.

What we're looking for...
The ideal candidate will be able to relate to and empathise with individuals with a learning disability. You will know how to implement empowering risk management procedures.
You will also be a role model and demonstrate the Council’s values and beliefs. Receptive to new ideas and able to accept changes you will be motivated and able to use initiative.
The service operates seven days a week and you will be required to work various shifts to meet the needs of the service, which includes evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins.
7.00 a.m. – 2.30 p.m./3.00 p.m.
2.30 p.m. – 10.00 p.m./10.30 p.m.
8.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m.
