The role

You will be required to carry out visiting and office-based duties on behalf of the Council as part of the Revenues and Benefits section in respect of Revenues matters. You will work closely with the team to ensure the council tax and business rates records are accurately maintained.

Main responsibilities

Undertake a range of specialist tasks including:

  • The inspection of council tax and business rate properties to verify details of occupation and whether they are correctly assessed
  • The review of single person discounts on a monthly basis in a risk based approach
  • The regular review of business rate reliefs and exemptions
  • Investigating data matches received from Kent Intelligence Network
  • Updating personal accounts for local tax payers and for local business ratepayers, dispatching letters and issuing notices

Essential qualifications/experience-

  • Good customer care skills
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Knowledge of council tax and business rates
  • 5 GCSEs (A-C or equivalent)
  • Full driving licence

Desirable qualifications/experience-

  • Experience of working in a Revenues environment
