The Deputy Director of the Public Works Department will support the Director in delivering overall monitoring and operational within the Directorate, including budget control and engineering services to ensure objectives and performance standards are met and within the resources allocated.

The Role

The role includes the direct management of the administrative function which provides clerical and financial support to all the sections within the Directorate, together with the management of projects and contracts.

Key areas of activity and support provision within the Directorate include Utilities; Highways Construction and Maintenance, Management and Maintenance of Housing, Production of Clean and Coated Aggregates, Engineering Design and Survey Services; the Development and Contract Management of Assigned Capital Projects, Maintenance of Public Buildings and public areas within Stanley and Waste Management and Disposal.

The role will also involve ensuring full knowledge of all these activities and functions are maintained to provide continuity of services and projects, in the absence of the Director.

The Person

The individual best suited to this role will have at least 5 years’ managerial experience at a level similar to this multidisciplinary organisation with wide experience of budget development, financial and business planning. 

Essential criteria also include an NVQ5/degree level qualification in Civil Engineering, construction or building or other evidence of this level of ability.

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
  • Starting Salary - £50,771 - £58,263 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £76,209.
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity (taxable).
  • 41 days paid leave, 30 days paid annual leave plus 11 government and public holidays.
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights Package for you and any recognised dependents residing with you at post both at the beginning and end of contract, along with additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract.
