SensePlus Portsmouth is the PCC In House service which provides support and development opportunities for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) who may also have additional physical needs, including some behaviours that may present a challenge.
SensePlus Portsmouth has two separate units, currently open Monday to Friday and is committed to working with Service Users in ways that supports and maximises their independence and relationships.
SensePlus Portsmouth ensures the transport team delivers safe passage to service users to and from their home to the Day Service at the beginning and end of the day.
Your New Role
You will be part of the SensePlus Team which will be based across two sites within the city and you will be working from either of the units. You will have the responsibility of transporting and offering support to service users to and from the day service. You will be required to pay attention to detail particularly when observing the wellbeing of service users during transportation as this can sometimes quickly change and you may be required to intervene.
You will be required to follow written strategies, guidelines including risk assessments when working with particular service users who may present challenging behaviours.
What you’ll need to succeed
You must have a full driving license with D1 category. You will need to have the ability to drive a minibus, MIDAS training will be provided and candidates shortlisted will need to complete a MIDAS assessment (practical, theory and accessible) prior to a job offer. You will need to be able to follow policies and procedures including risk assessments, training will be provided.
You will be willing to undertake the moving and handling of people training.
You will need to be in good physical health as you will be supporting and assisting individuals with limited mobility.
You must be an approachable and professional person, particularly when liaising with staff, carers and other professions.
You will need to have sufficient computer literacy skills to be able to access training, policies and significant information online. In addition to this, you should be willing to undertake any other training needed to fulfil the responsibilities of this role.
