Senior Teacher - Hearing Support Facility – Sensory Needs Service – East Sussex ISEND
Based at Willingdon Community School
Salary – Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale plus TLR 2 plus SEN points (2 for qualified TODs, 1 for unqualified or in training.)
Start date – As soon as possible
The ISEND Sensory Needs Service are looking to recruit an experienced secondary practitioner with a background in SEND or English to lead a small team in one of their Secondary Facilities. A colleague with Qualified Teacher of the Deaf status is preferred however, training can be offered to the right candidate. You will be planning and delivering bespoke interventions to the pupils in the facility as well as coordinating interventions delivered by specialist teaching assistants
The Sensory Needs Service is a small supportive team who work with children with a hearing impairment or a visual impairment and their families from birth to 25 years. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher with secondary experience in English and/or SEND to develop their skills further and specialise in deaf education.
This role involves a teaching commitment – mainly small groups or 1:1 in the facility, managing a small team of Teaching Assistants, supporting in a mainstream classroom, facilitating Annual Reviews and liaison with the Host School. Advocating for young people while building their independence is an important part of the role and the candidate will need good communication skills.
You will have
- a sound knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice.
- be able to plan and deliver interventions that will improve access to the secondary curriculum while also supporting the pupils’ language development.
- have good ICT skills,
- be able to communicate well with staff, pupils, parents and professionals
- be able to manage a workload of admin. and teaching.
- excellent organisational and management skills
