This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced Best Interest Assessor to join our small Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Team at this time, as the Mental Capacity Amendment Act 2019 and Liberty Protection Safeguards are due to be implemented in April 2022.  Under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Legislation, the Isle of Wight Council acts as Supervisory Body, overseeing the authorisation of deprivation of liberty in residential/nursing care home settings and hospitals. The Social Care Practitioner Best Interests Assessor will undertake assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and provide necessary reports to the DoLS Consultant Practitioner to support the authorisation process. They will also promote a better understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards and the Liberty Protection Safeguards across health and social care on the Isle of Wight.

 

The duties will include:

- Undertaking DoLS Assessments and completing appropriate reports.

- Supporting colleagues in health and social care in understanding and applying the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS).

- Supporting Best Interests Assessors and Social Work Colleagues in other service areas in keeping up to date with developments in DoLS, LPS and MCA.

- Taking part in the Out of Hours (OOH) stand-by duty rota as and when requested by management on an occasional basis.

 

Applicants must hold a current DoLS Best Interests Assessor qualification, have experience of completing these assessments and have undertaken DoLS/BIA legal update training within the last twelve months.

 

We provide annual Legal update training to our Best Interest Assessors; monthly team meeting; monthly supervision; regular BIA support/CPD sessions; and administrative support.
