Guildford's Heritage Service has an exciting opportunity for a Documentation Assistant to join its small collections team.
Guildford Borough Council's Heritage Service is responsible for the care of collections held across Guildford Museum, Guildford House Gallery, Guildhall and offsite stores. The collections cover a range of categories and disciplines, including archaeology, needlework and textiles, social and local history, and art.
We have recently acquired our first Collections Management System, CollectionsIndex+. The Documentation Assistant will document and digitise the collection to ‘Spectrum’ standards on CollectionsIndex+ by creating and updating records, scanning and photographing objects as well carrying out object research for colleagues and dealing with public enquiries.
A demonstrable interest in museums and/or heritage sites is essential. Evidence of experience in collections documentation and an ability to input data with a high level of accuracy should be demonstrated within your application. Some experience of using a museum collections management system and knowledge of museum documentation processes and standards, including ‘’Spectrum’, are desirable but not essential.
