About the role

YMCA Dialogue is a BACP Accredited service, providing counselling services in schools since 1994. Dialogue has built an excellent reputation with schools, professionals and commissioners and the service has developed and expanded over the years, now operating across Brighton & Hove, East and West Sussex, and Surrey.

As a School Counsellor you will be expected to establish and manage an easily accessible, ethical counselling service within the school setting and provide a high standard of clinical counselling provision to children and young people.
There is a team of counsellors/therapists working across the Central Hub sites, which provides a supportive working environment. Counsellors need to be robust and resilient personally and professionally. The provision must offer students creative and flexible ways of working, where they can talk, make art, or play games; using creative activities to help them think about things that might be worrying them.
There are two posts both based out of The Central Hub Brighton, they could be covered by one counsellor or split between two:

Post 1:  School Counsellor – Homewood (Connected) School, Brighton – 30 hours per week on fixed term contract until 31 August 2022
Homewood (Connected) School is a maintained special school for students aged 11-16. All pupils who are referred to the school have an education, health and care plan. They include young people who have significant gaps in their learning or who have been excluded from mainstream education. Homewood is part of Central Hub Brighton which comprises Homewood together with the Brighton & Hove Pupil Referral Unit (primary and secondary) and The Connected Hub (Year 11 Pupil Referral Unit.
Post 2: School Counsellor – KS2 The Central Hub, Brighton – 7.5 hours per week on fixed term contract until 31 August 2022
KS2 in Hollingdean is part of Central Hub Brighton which comprises the Brighton & Hove Pupil Referral Unit (primary and secondary), Homewood Connected School and The Connected Hub (Year 11 Pupil Referral Unit. Central Hub (previously known as Brighton & Hove Pupil Referral Unit) helps children and young people to overcome their barriers to learning, some of whom have Education, Health & Care Plans. Pupils who attend come from across Brighton & Hove. They include young people with special educational needs, as well as those who have significant gaps in their learning or who have been excluded from mainstream education.
