About the role

We are looking for a dynamic Insurance professional to join the busy Orbis Insurance (Fund and Policy) team.

You will be part of a team within the Orbis partnership, who provide a highly regarded, professional service to East Sussex County Council, Surrey County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council. While employed by East Sussex County Council, your role will be primarily, (although not exclusively) to provide a comprehensive insurance service for Brighton & Hove City Council, including non-liability claims handling, underwriting, policy management and offering expert, professional advice to all council Departments and schools.

You will demonstrate proven leadership skills, and the ability to guide the work of others in the team. You will need to show a track record of leading and delivering complex projects and working within a challenging environment, demonstrating financial awareness and political sensitivity.

You should have extensive experience of providing a comprehensive insurance service in a public sector, and preferably Local Government, environment. You will need to be self-motived and an excellent team player, with the ability to direct and manage your workload on your own initiative as well as providing guidance and support to other members of the team. You should be well organised and an excellent communicator who is comfortable providing quality, professional advice, and guidance to a wide variety of staff at all levels, external service providers such as Insurance Companies, loss adjusters, Insurance brokers, as well as members of the public, commercial tenants, and leaseholders.

You should also be fully aware of the principles of a developed risk management based culture and the ability to adapt and apply practical risk management advice and guidance to different situations.

You should be able to work successfully in an agile / hybrid environment, although attendance at County Hall in Lewes and Bartholomew House in Brighton will be required, as appropriate. You will also be required to quickly learn and become expert in the council’s claims handling system, Lachs.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
