ABOUT THE JOB

Reporting to the Head of Safeguarding and Intervention, you will be expected to provide strong and visible leadership for an Intervention Service.

The Service Manager for Intervention plays a critical role in driving high quality practice to benefit children supported by the Intervention service. The Service Manager will analyse performance data to ensure statutory visits are timely and that the service as a whole is efficient and effective, with the welfare of children and families at the forefront of all decision making. Leading by example, the Service Manager will act as a point of escalation for cases and make key decisions in partnership with social workers, managers, and on occasion external stakeholders.

The role involves helping managers and practitioners to be the best they can be whilst creating the best practice environment for staff. In Newham we model and lead with high expectations and exceptional support – and the Service Manager will exemplify this culture. You’ll also be responsible for ensuring thresholds are applied consistently and appropriately within your service, playing a key role in relevant proceedings where necessary.

Leaders in Newham are focussed on embedding Systemic practice and relationship based work within their services; it’s vital for the Service Manager to engage daily in conversations about what we can do better, and how we can have a purposeful impact on the lives of Newham’s children, young people, and their families.

You will be a confident decision maker and able to instil confidence with children, staff, peers, and partners. You will be committed to Newham’s practice model of a Restorative approach with Systemic Practice across all services.

We're looking for candidates who can evidence high levels of experience of management and leadership within the safeguarding context who are passionate about improving children’s lives. You are full of energy and enthusiasm, taking a creative but pragmatic approach to supporting your teams to achieve positive outcomes for our children and young people. You already embrace our people focused values and want to be an active part of our collective ‘Newham Together’ journey. You want to make a difference. You like to shape services to ensure that managers and social workers maintain excellent quality practice to support our children and their families.

You will have an excellent track record of delivering successful outcomes for young people within a diverse urban community. You have high working standards and are conscious of your own professional development, actively seeking avenues of learning and improvement for yourself and others.

You are a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable experience at management level in a statutory social care setting.
